One ledger. Three answers.
The treasurer, the bulletin and the bank each need the same money sliced a different way. Most teams keep three spreadsheets. You keep one.
Each gift
Donor number, cash or cheque, amount, and how it’s split across funds.
Built for the folding table in the church office
Fast enough for a big Easter count, simple enough for a volunteer who counts once a month.
Keyboard-first entry
Tab and Enter through a spreadsheet-style grid. A single-fund gift is one keystroke; paste a column straight from Excel or Google Sheets.
Split gifts across funds
One cheque for the General Fund, Missions and the building trust? Enter it once and split it. Loose cash lands in your default fund.
Balances to the cent
Every amount is stored as whole cents, so totals never drift. Live checks flag any gift whose split doesn’t add up before you seal the bag.
Deposit sheets per account
Map funds to bank accounts once. Each count rolls up to the deposit slip for every account — no second spreadsheet.
Year-end in an afternoon
Donor totals accumulate across every Sunday, ready for tax receipts. Export per-donor CSV when it’s receipt season.
Two-person accountability
Every session records who counted and who verified, and exports a full audit trail with the bulletin summary.
How a Sunday count works
Set up your funds and accounts once. After that, every count follows the same four steps.
Open a session
Date it and record both counters. Two people, always — the app keeps the names on the record.
Enter each gift
Envelope number, cash or cheque, amount. Split it across funds if the giver asked you to.
Watch it balance
Running cash, cheque and fund totals update as you type. Fix anything flagged before the bag is sealed.
Export and deposit
Print the deposit sheet, paste the bulletin summary, and save the audit trail for the treasurer.
Why not just use a spreadsheet?
Plenty of churches do — until a formula breaks in March and nobody notices until year-end.
| Paper tally sheet | Spreadsheet | Church management system | Sunday Tally | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | Free | Free | Monthly subscription | Free |
| Split gifts across funds | By hand | If the formulas hold | Yes | Yes, with checks |

| Year-end donor totals | Weekend of adding | Pivot table | Yes | Automatic |
| Counters see donor names | Often | Often | Often | Never — numbers only |

Your giving records never leave your hands
Sunday Tally runs entirely in your browser. There’s no account, no server holding your data, and nothing to breach. By default it saves nothing at all; you choose whether to keep data in this browser or in your own Google Drive.
And because the count is done by envelope number, the volunteers at the table never see who gave what. Names stay with your treasurer, where they belong.
Free tools for counting teams
No sign-up, nothing to install. Use them on their own, or alongside the app.
Cash count calculator
Count bills and coins by denomination, add cheques, and compare to the envelope total. Prints as a signed count sheet.
Printable offering count sheet
A clean one-page tally sheet with denomination tables, fund breakdown and signature lines for both counters.
Step-by-step counting procedure
From the offering plate to the night-deposit box: a procedure you can adapt and hand to every new counter.
Questions counting teams ask
Is Sunday Tally really free?
Yes. The counting app runs entirely in your browser, so there are no servers to pay for and no per-user fees. There is no account to create.
Where is our giving data stored?
By default, nowhere — the app keeps everything in memory and you export what you need. You can opt in to saving in this browser, or syncing a single file to your own Google Drive. Nothing is ever sent to us.
Do we have to enter donor names?
No, and we recommend you don’t. Sunday Tally records envelope or donor numbers only. Your treasurer matches numbers to names for receipts, so the counting team never needs to see who gave what.
Does it handle cash and cheques separately?
Yes. Each entry is cash or cheque, and the running totals show cash, cheques and the gross so you can check them against the bank deposit slip.
Can we split one gift across several funds?
Yes. Add your funds (General Fund, Missions, Building, Benevolence…) and type the amount for each. The app flags any gift whose split doesn’t add up to the amount given.
Can we use it for things other than a church offering?
Anywhere money is counted, split across purposes and deposited — a school fundraiser, a club’s dues night, a food bank collection — works the same way.
What do we get out of it?
A full entries CSV (your audit trail), per-fund and per-account totals, a bank deposit sheet, a paste-ready bulletin summary, year-end donor totals and a JSON backup you can re-import.
Does it work on a laptop with no internet in the church basement?
Once the page has loaded it doesn’t need the internet to count, because nothing is sent anywhere. Keep the tab open, or save to this browser so a refresh won’t lose your work.
Make this Sunday’s count the easy one
Open the app, add your funds, and count. No account and no install, and it costs nothing.
